Every once in a while the two of us are privileged enough to be invited to special events around Orlando, and we recently partook in a tasting event hosted by local cupcake bakery Sweets by Holly.

Sweets by Holly is a multi-time award-winning bakery from such shows as Cupcake Wars and Cupcake Confidential and is somewhat of a legend around The City Beautiful. You can visit her shops for more than 80 different flavors of cupcakes or order a cake. Unfortunately, the cakes take at least 24 hours notice. This poses a problem when someone enters a Sweets by Holly shop and wants a cake right then and there.

This is where our tasting comes in.

Holly wanted to have a universally loved cake available for the walk-in customer and she wanted to test out her creation (the Strawberry Dreamer) before unveiling it to the masses. The event was hosted in a private room at Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant where not only did we receive samples of the cake, we each got a glass of sparkling rosé wine as well.

We sampled a vanilla bean cake with a strawberry whipped topping that surrounded the cake’s exterior, and was also layered within the cake as well.

Our cake samples were definitely tasty, but the MVP of the experience was the whipped cream frosting. When it comes to baked goods, Tyler is very weird and doesn’t like frosting. It’s too sugary for him and ends up taking away from the taste of the cake itself. Holly’s whipped cream frosting was just the right amount of sweet and fluffy to actually complement the cake instead of taking away from it.

Another awesome thing about the whipped cream is that it’s completely vegan.

As for the cake itself, it was certainly delicious, but a little bit dense for us. We felt quite full after our individual slices of cake and that’s not the feeling we want to have after eating dessert. We’ll be eager to taste the cake once it comes out and see what’s changed!
