Museum of Illusions Orlando on I-Drive
Orlando is chock full of attractions, but for every major theme park like Disney and Universal, there are plenty of smaller attractions that are just as much fun. The newest of these attractions is the Museum of Illusions Orlando located at Icon Park right off I-Drive. A plus of this visit is that you can tack it onto a visit to Icon Park, where you can visit Sea Life Aquarium, Madame Tussauds, The Wheel, and various dining options.
Disclaimer: We did receive media tickets for the museum, however our opinions are our own.
Getting There and Parking
Located at Icon Park, the Museum of Illusions is easy to get to. Icon Park is one of International Drive’s main attractions and not only features a variety of dining and activities, but also a free parking garage.
Museum of Illusions Orlando
So, what is the Museum of Illusions Orlando? It’s touted as an “edutainment” experience with more than 50 interactive and immersive exhibits based on math, science, and psychology. We would describe the museum’s layout as a mix between a traditional museum similar to the Orlando Museum of Art, and an interactive museum similar to Wonderworks. There are a handful of bigger exhibits that require some interactivity or posing, but in between all of these are framed illusions you walk up to and look at.
Make sure you have a charged phone or camera because there are some very Instagrammable backdrops and photo opportunities, many of which were designed specifically for this location!
So how do you get the most out of your photo opportunities? The Museum of Illusions Orlando has helpful signs on the floor in front of each main exhibit. This is also a great opportunity for the Museum of Illusions to show off one of its best features — the staff.
The staff was super attentive and helpful during our visit. They were more than happy to explain any illusion that wasn’t quite working for us, or if we didn’t “get” it. Also, they readily volunteered to take our picture in the bigger exhibits. They were a hidden gem and made our visit much more fun.
All in all, the experience takes about an hour, and when we visited we had to pick the time we wanted to come (due to COVID safety precautions for capacity). There is only one exhibit that wouldn’t be the best for those who get motion sick, otherwise, the experience is fun for all ages.
The Verdict
The Museum of Illusions Orlando is a great example that you don’t need to visit a giant theme park to have some fun in the city. It’s a good rainy-weather/something different activity that won’t break the bank. The illusions are fun to see and the photo ops are phenomenal.
If you’re vacationing in the city and want some great pictures to remember your time, the Museum of Illusions is a great option. In a city that’s brimming with entertainment, the Museum of Illusions Orlando is a way to try something new, something different, and, most importantly, something fun for the whole family for not a lot of money.
